Ashella was born, as far as she knows, to an ignoble family in Tyraturos, Thay. Her upbringing was a haze of misery and poverty, and she escaped it as soon as possible. She journeyed to Bezantur and took up the mantle of a thief. Soon, she found herself at odds with the local criminal syndicate, but she was spared a terrible fate when one Meran Dholuk, an accomplished guild rogue, took her under his wing.
She took well to the craft, and even to him, but theirs was a romance doomed to failure. Always, their duties to the guild took preference; Sherry, as she now called herself, began to suspect her guild master was keeping them apart because he wanted her for himself. When Meran deduced this, he calmly executed a plan...to execute and replace his guildmaster.
Seemingly, he had won her, but he found she was disgusted by his immorality, and disillusioned of the thief's way. She liberated herself from the guild and tried to find an honest life. Though she had many difficulties with jealous or opportunist former guildmates, attempting to make good on the guild's policy that "no one ever quits", hers was an easy exile, much due to the efforts of Meran. Despite his attempt at what he called kindness, she did not warm to him. She soon left the city in the company of adventurers.
What followed was a long period of odd adventures with odder companions, everything from a priest of Tiamat to a group of Evereskan elves seeking to destroy an evil artifact. In her travels, she met Nerick Spellchaser, a relationship that would guide her into some very important events later in life.
From 1373-1377, she began to undergo some changes, both physically and metaphysically. She isolated herself, and went through great travail as she tried to determine what was wrong with her. She began to develop powers--flight, fire, sight beyond sight--and her form began to change, growing stronger, more sturdy, more...shall we say, feminine. Her once muted auburn hair became fiery red, and her eyes glowed a matching hue, flaring of silver when her powers manifested.
She emerged from this strange, second adolescence, having learned to suppress her powers, and to seem at least mostly normal, just in time to find herself invited by Nerick to a meeting of the minds, a mission to Damara, wherein she fell in with Dorian, Hyacinth, and the rest involved in the Nightmare Crisis. Before its end, she had participated in many great battles, including the slaying of Tiamat.
During these adventurers, she finally learned the startling truth of her existence: that she was a Chosen of Mystra, and that she was destined to come into such power in the hour of need. Moreover, her true mother revealed her identity, and that of her father: Sherry is the daughter of Elminster and The Simbul.
The Simbul has since tried to set Sherry on a path in her footsteps, to forge her into yet another weapon in her arsenal. However, Sherry defied her mother and returned to Thay to aid an uprising against the Red Wizards, and has now taken up residence in Eltabbar. She is a great friend of the people, but has become less a friend of Zahl, the Empress of Thay, whom she aided in her ambitions and has come to regret it. She now campaigns for a free Thay, but not as a conquereror; instead, she is sowing the seeds of revolution and democracy in the minds of the people, using methods and philosophies she learned from her adventuring companion, Hyacinth Knight.
